Recent AFIRM Community Outreach: Strengthening Families Across Memphis

Posted December 13, 2025

Over the past two months, Families Matter AFIRM (A Father’s Involvement Really Matters) has been deeply engaged across Memphis, advancing our mission to strengthen families, expand opportunity, and build community. From resource fairs and fatherhood training to citywide celebrations and collaborative partnerships, AFIRM has met families where they are—providing support, encouragement, and vital connections. The events below highlight the meaningful outreach our team has undertaken to equip fathers, uplift children and families, and foster a stronger, more resilient Memphis.

October 17: FTK Fall Festival – Agape and UniverCity held their October Fall festival at For the Kingdom, bringing the vision to life in creating a safe, engaging, and family-centered space where children and parents could come together, connect, and celebrate community. Over 257 participants attended the event.

October 25: Juvenile Court Candy “Coated” Trunk or Treat – Families Matter AFIRM participated in the Juvenile Court Candy “Coated” Trunk or Treat because of what it represents: community coming together to support children and families who need it most. Judge Tarik Sugarmon showed appreciation to the Families Matter AFIRM team for helping bring the Candy “Coated” event to life.

October 28: Families Matter AFIRM Job and Community Resource Fair – The job/resource fair helps to remove barriers and connect fathers and families to opportunities, tools, and support systems they need to thrive.

October 31: Pursuit of God October Fun Fest – Families Matter AFIRM was honored to participate in POG’s family night of fun-filled laughs, community, and support.

The event provided necessities like food, clothing, appliances, and household goods to those who need it most- children, families, and individuals. The event impacted 6000 families. Bishop Brandon B. Porter showed his Christmas spirit in his Santa Claus suit bringing Miracles to Memphis.

November 4: FM Fatherhood Training Session – As the holiday approaches, Families Matter is thankful for the fathers who persevere to gain knowledge in the AFIRM (A Father’s Involvement Really Matters) program. This program is designed to help them be the best versions of themselves, impacting generations of Children to come.

November 15: Utility Alliance MPD Purple Unity Project – Families Matter AFIRM participated in Utility Alliance’s 1st Annual MPD Purple Unity Project to provide information and resources to individuals promoting safety and support for those in need.

November 18: Clergy Collaboration “Lunch and Learn” Supporting Our Young Fathers – Families Matter AFIRM was recognized as a key community resource supporting underserved fathers in Shelby County. Clergy leaders from across Memphis attended to learn, collaborate, and explore new ways to partner with Families Matter’s AFIRM initiative to strengthen sustainability and increase father involvement.

November 21: Breaking Bread with Fathers Thanksgiving Luncheon – Families Matter AFIRM hosted a “Breaking Bread with Fathers” Thanksgiving Luncheon to honor and recognize the progress and dedication of our current participants. This event was designed to strengthen the internal community among AFIRM Fathers, fostering a sense of brotherhood, encouragement, and continued support. As the year ends, AFIRM seeks to express gratitude to the fathers who have demonstrated commitment and growth throughout their journey in the program. Sharing a meal symbolizes unity and reinforces AFIRM’s mission to build capacity, promote economic stability, and nurture supportive relationships among participants.

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
