Poverty

The city of Memphis has a poverty rate of 21.7% and child poverty is much higher, at 35%. We must address the breakdown of the family, which leaves so many women and children defenseless.

Violence

According to TBI, the violent crime rate in Memphis rose to 24.3% in 2020 from 23.1% the previous year. MPD says there are 13,400 gang members on record in our city.

Homicide

In 2020, Memphis had more than 330 homicides, and 289 of those were murders. Some neighborhoods have so much violence, it is not safe for families to live their daily lives.
